When the top is down, aren't all seats air-conditioned?

Your desire for ventilated front seats in a convertible steers you into higher-priced territory, so you're probably looking at $45,000 or more for the car of your dreams. You will have to do the legwork to see if any have the rear-seat room you covet.

Among your choices are the Audi A5, the Infiniti G37, Lexus IS 250/350 and Mercedes-Benz E350. If the sky's the limit, you can add $90,000 convertibles such as the BMW 650 and Jaguar XK to your shopping list. In all cases, hardware and storage space for the convertible top impinge on rear-seat room, so don't expect to find limousinelike accommodations. The G37 and IS 250/350 are particularly tight in back.
