Is every Jeep Grand Cherokee all-wheel drive?

I'm renting a Jeep Grand Cherokee in ski country and wanted to know if they are all four-wheel-drive.

Sue, Westminster, Colo.

No, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland models are available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Only the high-performance SRT8 model comes with standard four-wheel drive.

We would expect rental companies that offer SUVs in ski country to ensure that all are equipped with four-wheel drive, but you should ask before you reserve a vehicle. Rental companies look at life differently than most of us (a Toyota Corolla somehow becomes “midsize,” for example), so make sure you will get four-wheel drive before you have to head to the slopes in a snowstorm. Jeep offers different four-wheel-drive systems on the Grand Cherokee, but all either engage automatically or are permanently engaged.
