Fuel economy ratings for BMW’s new compact crossover SUV range from 28 mpg in combined city/highway driving for the rear-drive X1 sDrive 28i to 21 mpg for the four-wheel-drive xDrive 35i. The xDrive 28i falls between with a combined rating of 26 mpg.
The 28i models use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission that help the sDrive earn EPA ratings of 24/34 mpg city/highway and the xDrive version 22/33 mpg. The xDrive 35i comes with a turbo 3.0-liter six cylinder and a six-speed automatic and has EPA estimates of 18/27 mpg. All models require premium gas.
