Fuel economy increased on the redesigned 2012 Versa sedan with the adoption of a new 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and new transmissions. With a five-speed manual transmission, the Versa sedan’s EPA estimates are 27/36 mpg city/highway, and with a continuously variable automatic transmission, they’re 30/38 mpg.

The 2012 Versa hatchback is a carryover from the previous generation and comes with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder. EPA estimates for the hatchback are 26/31 mpg with a six-speed manual, 24/32 mpg with a four-speed automatic and 28/34 mpg with a CVT.
