Reliability is measured over years, and since the 2012 CC has been around for only a matter of weeks, it’s too soon to say. However, if recent history is a guide, the reliability of the CC is cause for concern.

Consumer Reports, which bases its ratings on surveys of subscribers who own the vehicles, predicts that the 2012 CC’s reliability will be 24 percent worse than the average 2012 vehicle. The main problem areas owners experienced on the 2011 CC were squeaks and rattles and with the stereo.

The CC debuted for the 2009 model year, so it hasn’t been included in J.D. Power and Associates’ Vehicle Dependability Index, which measures problems on vehicles after three years of ownership. As a brand, Volkswagen received a score of two out of a possible five — below average — in the 2011 dependability index. In comparison, Toyota, Hyundai and Acura were among brands that received ratings of four out of five.
