Every time I look at an F-150, I am curious about the difference between FX4 and 4x4. What is the real difference? Is FX4 an off-road package? Are there differences in skid plates, differentials, etc.?
The F-150 FX4 comes with four-wheel drive and a standard off-road package that includes skid plates, heavy-duty shock absorbers and 18-inch wheels — features that are optional on the F-150 XLT model in a $595 package. Compared to the XLT, the FX4 also has several other standard features, including an electronic locking rear differential, a towing package, 18-inch wheels and tires (instead of 17s), front bucket seats with a power driver’s seat, Sync multimedia system, Sirius Satellite Radio, trip computer and unique exterior trim.
The FX4 starts at $36,625 for a SuperCab, and a four-wheel-drive XLT SuperCab starts at $33,535. Neither price includes a $975 destination charge. You can compare prices and features for all F-150 models in the Cars.com Research section.
