Is the Toyota Sienna hybrid minivan available yet?

If not, are there other hybrids with seating for more than three in the back? What other minivan hybrids are there? I am not interested in a huge vehicle. I want the smallest vehicle with seating to carry more than three kids in the back with good mileage and emissions-friendly. Am I asking for too much?

Deborah M., Milton, Mass.

Sorry, not right now. The redesigned 2011 Sienna doesn’t have a hybrid model; its most efficient version is rated at 19/24 mpg city/highway with the base four-cylinder engine.

In the minivan segment, you won’t find any hybrids, either. The most fuel efficient of the bunch is the also-new 2011 Honda Odyssey, rated at 19/28 mpg on Touring models; non-Touring models are 18/27 mpg.

If a smaller vehicle will do the trick, check out the 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which is rated at 27/25 mpg and is available with a third row that increases capacity to seven occupants; the third row is best suited for children or smaller individuals.

The Highlander Hybrid has the highest starting price at $34,900, and that doesn’t include the optional third row that’s part of a $2,100 package. The Sienna starts at $24,460 with a four-cylinder engine, and the 2011 Odyssey is $27,800, though the Touring model with 19/28 mpg is $40,755.
