Do any new sedans offer a front bench seat?

Are there any other new sedans that can be added to this list?

You have only a handful of choices, and the number is going down, not up. The list includes the same models for 2010 and 2011: the Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, Chevrolet Impala, Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis. All are available with a front bench seat that gives these cars room for six, but the Grand Marquis will soon disappear because Ford Motor Co. is phasing out the Mercury brand.

Interest in cars with front bench seats has been declining for years, and note that the few sedans that still offer one generally appeal to older buyers. Don’t look for this trend to reverse, though it’s not out of the question. With automakers facing ever-stringent fuel-economy requirements, they may offer six-passenger sedans as alternatives to SUVs because they can seat almost as many people and burn less gas. If that happens, maybe whitewall tires can make a comeback, too.

We compiled the list of sedans that offer bench seats using the Cars.com Vehicle Recommender, so if you want to expand your shopping list, you can set new search terms to include five-passenger models or different body styles.
