The biggest of the big SUVs from General Motors – Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade ESV – top the charts with maximum cargo volume of 137.4 cubic feet on models with a removable third seat. Ford Motor Co.’s king-size SUVs — the Ford Expedition EL and Lincoln Navigator L — rank second at 130.8 cubic feet. Without the removable rear seat, the GM SUVs max out at 90 cubic feet.

Note that on the three GM SUVs you have to fold the second row of seats forward and remove the third row — a potentially back-straining chore — to obtain the maximum cargo volume. On the Expedition EL and Navigator L, both the second- and third-row seats fold flat into the floor, plus a power fold feature is available for the third seat. That is a more convenient way to maximize the cargo-carrying capability.
