Two of the more dedicated glass roofs are the optional roofs on the 2011 Ford Mustang and 2010 Smart ForTwo. These glass panes do not open and are more like a giant skylight. Similar glass roofs come standard on the BMW 650i coupe and Audi A5, though the 650 and A5's roofs tilts open.
Cars.com senior editor Joe Wiesenfelder writes about the glass roof in the Mustang:
“The optional glass roof makes the Mustang's interior feel more open — not that it's as claustrophobic as the Camaro. It adds about 25 pounds, which is pretty light, but performance purists will probably avoid it, because its height does raise the car's center of gravity.”
The glass roof is a $1,995 option on Mustang Premium trim levels only.
More common are panoramic sunroofs that typically have at least one opening section; it’s a standard feature on the Scion tC. The 2011 Lincoln MKT has a standard panoramic roof that does not open, but the option is available.
Some models, such as the 2010 Audi Q7, will have a massive front section that makes it almost seem like a glass roof when exposed.
