Before the Maxima’s redesign in 2009, it would have been a tougher decision. Nissan has done a better job of distancing the current Maxima from the Altima, especially on the inside, where there’s a significant quality upgrade compared with the Altima.
Cars.com editor Kelsey Mays writes in his review of the Maxima:
“Dashboard quality rivals a Volkswagen Passat or Lexus ES, with gap-free panel fits around the glove compartment, center controls and steering wheel. The doors have wide armrests and softer materials, and the center controls feel luxury-spec.”
You’ll also find options on the Maxima that aren’t available on the Altima, including power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power rear sunshade and heated and cooled driver’s seat. For more comparisons to the Altima, read Mays’ review here.
