Our editors agree that if you don’t need off-road capability or towing capacity greater than 3,500 pounds, the 2010 Toyota 4Runner doesn’t have many advantages over the 2010 Ford Edge.
The 4Runner is a traditional SUV built on a truck chassis, giving it high ground clearance and off-road capabilities. The Edge, however, uses a carlike chassis and exhibits some of the associated advantages, including better gas mileage and more passenger room. As for cargo room, the 4Runner has more of it.
Both models call their highest-optioned, and most expensive, trim level the Limited, and they come with V-6 engines only. The Edge is available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while the 4Runner is rear-wheel drive, part-time four-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive.
If the Edge sounds more appealing, you may want to wait until this summer, when the redesigned 2011 Edge hits dealerships with its upgraded interior and trick options such as MyFord Touch. The 2010 models can be had on the cheap right now with available cash back up to $4,000 in your area.

Toyota and others knew they were having issues and attempted to hide it. All Car Companies should have came forward with a full disclosures of what car were dangerous. Instead of waiting for a huge media blitz and tons of public pressure. I never seen so many car companies GM - NISSAN - TOYOTA - HYUNDAI having recalls all at the same time. I had no idea my car was affected until I looked on http://www.carpedalrecall.com and found I had a bad Anti Lock control unit on my 2008 Pontiac G8 , my co workers Ford Truck had a recall also. So be careful
The 2011 Edge with the EcoBoost I4 should be much better fuel-economy-wise. Of course, if fuel-effiency were paramount, the Highlander Hybrid and the Escape Hybrid, depending on your exact space needs, should be considered as well.
the 4runner to edge is not the right comparison, Highlander is a better choice to compare for sure. Also max towing on the 4runner is 5000lbs not 3500.
iF YOU WANT THE VEHICLE TO STOP, I'D BUY THE FORD
2010 Toyota runner is of course the best as comparing to Ford Edge but i think comparison is not good it should be between Toyota runner and highlander.
I think both cars are best in there category. This comparison is not healthy 2010 Toyota runner is much bigger car than 2010 Ford Edge.
I think both cars are the best in the class there. This comparison is good racing driver 2010 Toyota is much larger than the 2010 Ford Edge.

My thought - I wouldn't get neither of the two.
If you looking at the Edge, then Highlander would be much better choice, space, comfort and liveliness. And with 4 cyl it can go efficiently as well.
