You can find our in-depth expert review of the 2009 Borrego here. In short, the Borrego may not have been the most fitting vehicle introduction when the truck-based, midsize SUV hit the market for the 2009 model year.

Cars.com editor Mike Hanley explains in his review:

“The Borrego may answer a question few outside Kia are asking, but when you take the time to size up the new midsize SUV, it's clear that it's a very well-executed truck-based model. It mitigates many of the undesirable aspects of this type of platform — from unrefined ride quality to lower fuel economy — while retaining the design's strengths, like towing capacity.

While the Borrego is a refined truck-based SUV, its existence begs a second question: Does the U.S. need another truck-based SUV? The answer for many shoppers is probably no, and the fact that Kia was able to make a nice vehicle using this type of platform is trumped by the reality that it's about 10 years late to the SUV party.”

The Borrego won’t be continued for the 2010 model year, so if it’s a vehicle you’re considering, there are notable incentives in your area that expire March 31, 2010. We’re currently seeing up to $3,000 cash back, plus a $1,500 cash-back offer if you trade in a competing vehicle.

In Cars.com’s national new-car inventory, there are roughly 800 Borregos out there. For comparison’s sake, Kia’s all-new 2011 Sorento crossover SUV has about 5,700 examples in our inventory.

I give you review on Borrego...
Look into the dark sky at night. Find that black hole. Black holes are so powerful that even light can't escape them. This is what I call Borrego - it is like a black hole.

When you buy one, you are guaranteed to lose a lot of money. Since the market for them almost not existent in the USA you will end up with a rare car. That will mean you will not be able to sell it (for money). Nobody would be interested to buy unless you bribe them with cash.

And if you happen to have that car still when gas prices will be $5-6 per gallon, and the warranty will expire... The parts for it will be $$through$$ the roof. For the same reason, insurance will be more expensive. Also, don't you total your car because your insurance company will not give you much for it.

Well. I hope my review was helpful in your decisions.

@Tony,
What have you been smoking? This SUV is well made and a great value. There will always be someone willing/wanting a truck based SUV with high towing capacity.

"When you buy one, you are guaranteed to lose a lot of money".

You'll lose a lot of money regardless of the make or modle, even Porsche will lose money the moment you drive off the dealers' lot!

cooper,

you, obviously, have no idea about not only cars but also about that whole car ownership thing.
Before you tell how well this SUV made, you show me one of these, which runs 10 years on the road. So far Kias have not often crossed 10 year mark.
You look at the surface and you have no point here. Most cars lose value but some lose it with speed.
And, when it comes to towing, one can buy a truck sold in numbers, so when this person ruins the transmission, he/she will be able to replace or repair it relatively inexpensive and without special order.
Buy it. I'll see you in few years.

This thing is using the 2 engines that also come with the Genesis, the 3.8 V6 and 4.6 V8. The segment might be dying, but I guess that Hyundai (KIA) threw this thing at the U.S. market to eat up what ever sales U.S. domestic SUVs had. Just my 2 cents…

My respect for Kia cars has absolutely sky-rocketed over the past few months as I think they are making some of the most affordable and trusted cars on the market today.

Actually not that bad looking for a mid-class SUV. I do like the no-nonsense interior styling and the classic amber on black displays.it is nice and cool car which has great style and passion.

The Borrego is more car than one expects. It has great fit and finish and high quality construction. The frame is bolted, rather than welded for a sturdier skeleton. The doors are substantial, yet easy to open and close. The rear has gobs of cargo space, even with the 3rd seat. The breaks are oversized and the engine has fantastic passing ability. The stiff suspension and ECS combined to make it very sure-footed in corners. The smooth transmission and high torque give a solid feeling to mountain driving. In short, the Borrego is much more car than I expected.

My mom just got this SUV. She absolutely loves it!

kia has has come along way over the years and thier cars and suv appeal are getting better to the consumer

I really do not like the Borrego personally. I prefer 4runners over anything but don't mind Jeeps either. My next car will probably be a hybrid though considering the rising gas prices!

Nice information, thank you to the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but generally, it is useful and important landslide. Thank you again and good luck!

:)

That’s actually social service work of a very deep and important kind.

This could be an e-mail efficiently and without inspiration, and I saw this single contract. Cozen I benefit from this amount and also say thank you for the story about it with others.

This is very relevant to our present state. I saw a child have their own iPad. I think it is really necessary for a child his age.

I favor runner over no matter which but do not mind Jeeps also.

good to see this placement from your side. i have really enjoyed it and want to see more in future. keep sharing.
