Or is it a factory-installed option?
Chrysler does not offer the package as a dealer-installed option after the sale. If you want the 3,800-pound towing capacity, you need to buy a Town & Country with the Trailer Tow Group, a $600 option for Touring and Limited models. The package includes a heavy-duty radiator and heavy-duty engine, oil and transmission oil cooling and a load-leveling suspension with height control, all necessary to tow that much weight.
You can buy aftermarket towing equipment such as transmission coolers and adjustable or air-filled rear shock absorbers, but you could wind up spending more than $600 to significantly boost the towing capacity above the standard 1,800 pounds (1,600 on the LX model). Towing is strenuous exercise, especially for a front-drive, unibody vehicle, so you want beefier components for durability and safety. But by bulking up your suspension, you are re-engineering your vehicle somewhat, and ride quality and handling ability could be compromised. Adding aftermarket parts and exceeding the vehicle’s factory-rated towing limit also could create warranty issues.
