For 2010, an automatic transmission adds $800 to the cost of a Toyota Yaris; a manual transmission is standard on all trim levels. Base pricing of the Yaris lineup when equipped with an automatic is below.

In contrast, the 2009 Yaris had an automatic transmission standard on the four-door hatchback body style for $13,305. This is no longer the case for 2010.

Gas mileage takes a small hit when opting for the automatic, dropping from 29/36 mpg city/highway to 29/35 mpg.

Skip the Yaris. With 5K more you can get a mada3 5 door and you'll be much happier

It is 2010, you don't purchase a new car unless it has a 6 speed automatic.
You don't purchase a used car unless it has a 5 speed auto.

i agree...noone should purchase a new vehicle that has less than 6 gears anymore. same goes with stability control and read disc brakes. if a vehicle does not have rear disc brakes and standard (or readily available) stability control, you shouldnt even put it on your list to look at. we are in a day and age where both stability control and rear disc brakes should be standard.

4, 5, 6 speed does not make a difference, it's the mpg that counts. www.fueleconomy.gov Mazda? are you kidding. I don't see Mazda being the number car company with the most fuel efficient and reliable cars. Zoom zoom to your mechanic each year to replace a DPFE EGR sensor or a CEL. By the way the 3 speed automatic transmissions are more reliable than the 4 speed over drive transmission. You save on gas but then you end up replacing the 4 speed auto for $3000. I've been in the auto mechanic business for 35 years.
