Subaru is planning to release a hybrid by 2012 with the help of its partner Toyota and its vast hybrid experience. Toyota has a 16 percent stake in Subaru and uses Subaru’s Indiana plant to build Camrys.
No specific model has been named to receive hybrid innards, and it’s possible the hybrid could be an all-new model. As an indication that they’re making progress, Subaru showed off a hybrid concept at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show dubbed the Hybrid Tourer. The Hybrid Tourer concept retained Subaru’s trademark features like symmetrical all-wheel drive and a boxer engine. However, no production plans were announced.

I am very happy to say that I am driving Subaru #3 and looking forward to the HYBRID!! PLEASE don't make it a "LOW RIDER"!
Even my '96 Outback that is not low to the ground has had the air conditioning "condenser" from underneath trashed at some point by something I ran over! I am presently with a pre-owned Subaru Forester 2004 and I LOVE IT! It sits high enough that I can see over the rooftops of the cars ahead of me, and will not have anything underneath "trashed" because of speed bumps and whatever else! It is also SMALL enough too so it is easier to get around in. SUBARU should keep SPEED BUMPS in mind, for although Japan may not have them everybody else does in North America. Praise to Subaru!

A hybrid Subaru would be a great addition to their lineup. These sturdy little vehicles need to be able to compete against the likes of Ford and Honda. Please continue to post updates.
