I want a wagon that’s low to the ground, but not too low. No search engine will sort by "wagon."
You can find a complete list of available wagons by using our Vehicle Recommender tool, found here. To help you narrow down that list, there are a few wagons that are well suited to dog-carrying duty like the 2010 Volvo V70 ($33,550). The V70 sits low to the ground and includes a standard rail system in the cargo area with movable tie-downs you can use to secure a dog carrier or a compatible restraint system.
Other wagons worth taking for a test drive include the 2010 Subaru Outback ($22,995) and 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen ($19,265).
While not exactly a wagon, the Honda Element ($20,525) is extremely utilitarian with plenty of cargo space for a large dog. The Element also has a plastic floor in most models – except the SC trim -- for easy clean-up. New for 2010 is an available “Dog Friendly” package ($995) for the Element EX ($22,635); it adds the following:
Honda’s Dog Friendly package for the Element is available Nov. 16.

I have a friend who recently bought an Elantra Touring for just that reason, and it actually has a modest price.
There are also a lot of things out there, like a Mazda 3, or even a Dodge Caliber.
