I am looking for a sporty all-wheel-drive car.
These two cars are competitive in their own segments, but we’re not exactly comparing apples to apples here. If you’re looking for any semblance of a luxury car with a quiet, high-quality interior and comfy seats then the A4 is for you. The WRX is more of a sports car than the A4, while the A4 does a good job balancing sporty performance and comfort.
The A4 isn’t too sporty in the base trim. It takes an optional Sport Package, including an upgraded suspension and summer tires, to add a lively driving experience. For 2010, an A4 2.0T Premium with Quattro all-wheel drive and a Sport Package is $33,800 with a manual transmission.
The 2010 WRX is only available with a manual transmission and comes with summer tires standard. It can reach its peak performance capabilities in the base model for $24,995, and it does so with no concern for a smooth ride or quiet interior.
Both are classified as compact cars by the EPA. Their interior dimensions aren’t far off from each other, but the A4 has additional cargo room. The WRX is also available as a hatchback, and the A4 has a wagon variant.
Other considerations you may want to add to your list are the Infiniti G37x and BMW 328i xDrive.

Go with the WRX. Much better vehicle. Much more fun to drive. The Audi is overpriced and under-powered. Worst: their customer service. I have a well-equipped 2007 A4, and will never buy from Audi again.
