The Environmental Protection Agency lists the new cars that are taxed for their low fuel economy in its 2010 Fuel Economy Guide. Below are 2010 models from the guide that have a gas guzzler tax added to their MSRP.

For the exact amount taxed — worse fuel economy equals higher taxation — head over to Cars.com and build one of the vehicles below. The build option lists fees and taxes like the gas-guzzler charge and destination charge.

Most cars with the gas-guzzler tax are high-end sports cars, but there are a few exceptions. The 2010 Infiniti M45x and 2010 Audi S5 are two of the less exotic cars hit with the gas-guzzler tax, which amounts to $1,300 each.

You may be able to avoid the gas-guzzler tax on some models simply by choosing a different transmission. For example, the 2010 BMW 650Ci convertible with standard automatic transmission does not get hit with the tax. Opt for the 650 Ci’s manual, and a $1,300 tax is added.
