I just want air conditioning and a CD player in the car.
We have in-depth articles to help you make the choice between buying a certified pre-owned car or going new. You can find those, here, and it shouldn’t be too different choosing the Civic compared to any other car. Air conditioning and a CD player are extremely common options and shouldn’t be hard to find on a Civic. However, since not all Civics came with those features standard, you will need to check to make sure the car you want has air conditioning and a CD player.
From 2006 to current model years the Civic’s entry-level DX had optional air conditioning and no stereo; just a provision for an aftermarket stereo. If you buy a certified used DX chances are someone has already installed a CD player, but we didn’t find too many DX models in our inventory. If you look for LX models and above, you shouldn’t have to worry about not having those features because they both came standard on LX, EX models and Si models.
You can use Cars.com’s listings to search for only certified pre-owned Civics.

Get certified, because Honda hasn't bothered to fix the flaws in the car.
Certified used costs about the same as new now, so why do you even bother to pick up someone else's left over car?
If the previous owner was nice and gentle, that's a different story; but do you really want to gamble for that?

On two 700+ mile trips, we averaged over 43mpg on our HOnda Fit. The fifth gear on the auto trans is like an overdrive and a light foot - even at 70 mph boosts mileage. Love the car!
