The 2010 Soul recently earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick award. This is given to cars that receive a Good rating — the IIHS’ best score — in front, side and rear crash tests. Electronic stability control is also required to earn the award. On the Soul it’s standard on all models along with six airbags and antilock brakes.

Among the Soul’s competition is the 2009 Scion xB, which also is a Top Safety Pick. The 2009 Nissan Cube is another competitor, but it hasn’t been tested by the IIHS as of this writing.
