Ford’s midsize Edge crossover SUV gets an EPA-estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway for front-wheel-drive models and 15/22 mpg for all-wheel-drive models.

The Edge’s mileage isn’t spectacular considering you can get a larger crossover SUV with three rows of seating and more cargo room with comparable mileage. With front-wheel drive and six-cylinder engines, the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse gets 17/24 mpg, 2009 Honda Pilot pulls down 17/23 mpg and 2009 Toyota Highlander gets 18/24 mpg.

Fordedge

On par with the Edge’s five-passenger capacity are the 2009 Toyota Venza, 2010 Mazda CX-7 and 2009 Nissan Murano. If you’re looking for great gas mileage in a vehicle this size, check out the Venza with a four-cylinder engine, rated with 21/29 mpg in front-wheel drive and 20/28 mpg in all-wheel drive. The Edge only comes with a six-cylinder.
