The 2009 Acura TL requires premium gasoline, and both available engines for 2009 have the same fuel requirement. Even if you buy the base version with 280 horsepower and not the SH-AWD model with 305 hp, you’ll still have to fill up with the expensive stuff.

Acura says in its 2009 TL owner’s manual that 87 octane can be used temporarily if 91 or higher isn’t available, however, extended use of 87 octane isn’t recommended.

Requiring or recommending premium isn’t uncommon with midsize luxury sedans. The 2009 Cadillac CTS is an exception; regular gasoline is recommended for both base and higher-output engines.

If you want to find which octane is recommended for your car, visit our research section where the recommended fuel for each engine is listed.
