The 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan is a brand new car, so long-term reliability reports aren’t available. What you can look at is J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Study, which rates owner-reported problems within the first 90 days. These problems include features or controls that don’t work as intended as well as breakdowns or malfunctions.

For 2009, the Genesis reported 84 problems per 100 vehicles in J.D. Power’s study, which is well below the industry average of 108; a lower score is better.

Hyundai as a brand also moved up in 2009’s Initial Quality Study, now ranking among the top five automakers. A J.D. Power spokesman says the Genesis is partly to thank because it’s a new car and scores well. The high-volume Hyundai Sonata also scored high, as did the Elantra and Accent, he said.

In fact, if it were its own brand, Genesis would have tied Lexus for first place in the IQS study. Not bad for a car that is so new.

I have been a mechanic for 18 years and this statement about hyundai rating as good as a lexus is nonsense. My personal experience with this type of car is not good. Don't let these companies tell you that hyundai rates as well as honda and toyota. If they did they wouldn't be so cheap. They are just trying to get you to purchase one of these peice of junk cars. Go ahead and purchase one if you want to be working on it all the time or paying a mechanic. Also hyundai will not hold its value so don't plan on trading it in anytime soon.

I have owned a Gensis since August 2008.And I have enjoyed every mile of driving, with almost 25,000 on it.The handling is great, the interior controls are very easy to use, by the way. This is my third Hyundai in 12 years.Without a problem I might add. All I ever do is normal maintanence.(Maybe the mechanics are worried about their jobs)
