The Ford Focus station wagon was last offered as a 2007 model; since then, the number of station wagons equipped with a four-cylinder engine has dropped. Currently available wagons that meet your criteria include the 2009 Subaru Outback ($22,295) and 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. The Jetta is available with a fuel-efficient four-cylinder diesel ($23,870), capable of 34 mpg combined; a five-cylinder comes standard.

While the number of station wagons in the Focus’ price range has decreased, the number of four-door hatchbacks is on the rise. These hatches have similar interior room and cargo versatility to a Focus station wagon like the 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring ($17,800), 2010 Scion xB ($15,750), 2009 Nissan Versa ($13,110), 2009 Nissan Cube ($13,990) and 2010 Kia Soul ($13,300).

The 2009 Mazda5 ($17,995) and 2009 Kia Rondo ($17,495) are wagon-like but also fit into the van segment. The two models have available three-row seating and room for up to six occupants.

There are also premium wagons with four-cylinders available for around $30,000 and above, including the 2009 Audi A4 Avant, 2009 Saab 9-3 SportCombi, 2009 Saab 9-5 SportCombi and 2009 Volkswagen Passat wagon.

Wouldn't the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe qualify as wagons?

You forgot the Volkswagen Passat Wagon, Audi A4 Avant, Saab 9-3 Sportcombi and Volvo V50.

Dang, no subaru's?

This answer here is totally confusing for Ray Hannon from Dallas.

I still don't understand why 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring is hatchback and not wagon?
Why many cars are not listed?
Why cars not asked for are listed?

There are plenty of station wagons still exist. The ones that are like Focus would be... Not many but plenty of close calls
-- Hyundai Elantra Touring
-- Mazda3
-- Toyota Matrix
-- Pontiac Vibe
-- Honda Fit
-- VW Jetta Wagon (5 cyl)
-- Volvo v50
-- Subaru Impreza
-- Audi A3
-- Audi A4
-- Chevy Aveo
...

And the bigger wagons would be
-- Subaru Legacy
-- Subaru Outbak

Thats 4 cyls more wagons then hatchbacks
But there are also
-- Kia spectra
-- Suzuki XL4
-- Chevy HHR
etc...

How about Mazda3?
