The Wrangler’s competition includes capable off-roaders like the Toyota FJ Cruiser, Hummer H3 and Nissan Xterra. All of these SUVs’ maximum ground clearance is within an inch of each other; the Wrangler provides the most ground clearance at 10.5 inches. Not all models come with this much clearance, but some include off-road packages that increase ground clearance.

Maximum Ground Clearance
2009 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon — 10.5 inches
2009 Hummer H3X — 10.0 inches
2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser — 9.6 inches
2009 Nissan Xterra Off Road — 9.5 inches

Ground clearance is the distance between the ground and the highest point of the vehicle’s undercarriage. Increased ground clearance is useful in off-road situations where you need additional space to clear rocks, ruts or obstacles.
