When it goes on sale this summer, the 2010 Ford Escape and Escape Hybrid will primarily show off new safety features. These include MyKey, a feature to keep teen drivers in check by limiting a vehicle’s top speed and stereo volume, as well as an automated parking assist.
Ford’s MyKey allows parents to trigger audible alerts when the car hits a certain speed; they also can set the fuel light to come on earlier than normal to give teen drivers plenty of warning about filling up.
The Escape’s new parking assist uses ultrasonic sensors and electric power steering to guide the vehicle safely into a parking spot. This is a first for SUVs, as other systems have been used primarily on sedans.
There are also enhancements to Ford’s voice-activated Sync system and its navigation. Real-time traffic with voice-activated guidance is added, as is an optional rearview camera with navigation.
There currently isn’t any information on pricing or any additional changes to the Escape lineup.
