Just because Chrysler filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection doesn’t mean the company is kaput. Chrysler’s operations will continue during bankruptcy proceedings. While Chrysler restructures with the intent of emerging from bankruptcy as a stronger company, the federal government is funding the company’s operations and backing its warranties.
While it’s safe to buy Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep right now, many of Chrysler’s cars simply aren’t competitive with segment leaders, which is something you should take into consideration when shopping. For example, none of Chrysler’s vehicles made Cars.com’s 2009 Best Bets, which looks at a car’s reliability, crash-test results and fuel economy.
If you’ve found a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep car that you’re interested in, you could likely find a good deal with the latest round of incentives. Currently, Chrysler is offering up to $4,000, plus a $1,000 loyalty bonus if you currently own a Chrysler. Take off another $1,000 if you finance through a participating credit union. Big incentives aren’t limited to Chrysler; many automakers are offering significant cash-back offers and low-interest rates.

How patriotic you are Tony. I bet you'd rather have Honda and Toyota be the only automakers alive so that that Japan can control our economy as well.
A true patriot would buy sub-par products just like a true patriot wouldn't object when the government does something Unconstitutional right? Sorry I'm not buying.

Peppy,
I would rather have a car that is fuel efficient, reliable and comfortable. I would rather have a domestic company that brings money to my country and not asking government to give money to them. Were do you think the money comes from, tax payers? No. It comes from Japan and China. Our government sells feature of hundreds of millions for wellness of few hundred thousands. This is our children who will have to repay that money. I don't want my children to be slaves. That should answer your blindness about Japan’s control. They are in control because we put them in control by borrowing from them!
Chrysler is a black hole, which will suck anything you throw in it. It will never give out a light. They don't have the capacity. They will fail. But before that will happen, they will suck whole lot of money from us.
toyota and honda build a lot of cars here in america with american workers and purchase from many american car part suppliers.
if you really want to be "patriotic", there is nothing wrong considering Ford. recent reliability surveys filled out by consumers say their products are getting better and better. some models are even more reliable than japanese cars in certain market segments.
I wouldn't buy a Chrysler even if they were giving them away. Even if it was $10,000 cash back they can keep that crap. None I repeat none of the products they have are even close to being reliable. Quality is just not there. Of course I'm not saying don't buy American because I own an 06 GTO. Just buy smart thats all.
kinda funny, i know plenty of people that drive calibers, chargers, rams, 300s, caravans, and various jeeps and i never see them on the side of the road. they never ask me for rides to and from the dealership to pick up their crappy, unreliable cars. seriously, what are you guys basing this 'unreliable' assessment on? uncompetitive? maybe...unreliable? give me a break.
Chrysler, their suppliers, dealers and employees have been doing their thing and paying huge amounts of taxes for over eighty years in the United States. When they built their factories there was very little taxpayer money spent to "attract" them unlike many of the import manufacturers that put out bids to state and local governments to get the best deal to not pay taxes. Those of you that think buying foreign vehicles, even if they are assembled here, has anywhere near the positive impact on our ecomomy as buying from an American company have not done your research.
my dad had a 1997 dodge ram and it never had a problem with it until 2009 with almost 200k on it. people keep saying ho unreliable it is but i beat the crap out of the truck witch is why it had a problem but my Honda with 1/3 the millage has given me many more. so don't hate
It's logical to hear people want to buy a reliable car and a car that they will like to drive. I don't know why so many people think that Chrysler cars are not reliable. I personally have owned several Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep vehicles. ONly once I remeber I has a problem with my 2002 Concorde where front bearing was shot at around 30K miles, dealer fixed it and I was all set. I presently have a 2006 Jeep Commander with 121,000 miles. All I have done is regular maintenance oil, tyres & brakes and that is it. If you have not had any personal experience than at least try those cars thaey are good, if not the best. Only thing I know they have done that I did not like was the interiors have too much hard surfaces, I have herd that they are changing that. I saw the 2010 Grand Cherokee in NY auto show, that is an excellent car, premium interior and stylish.
"Those of you that think buying foreign vehicles... has anywhere near the positive impact on our ecomomy as buying from an American company..."
I think, it is opposite. May be American corporate ethics will change. No longer we'll se managers getting millions $$$ in bonuses for the failed products and companies.
for those, who are here to tell me "I had Chrysler and no problems"... You are simply lying. My friend is a mechanic and he told me all the horror stories from book of Chrysler.
And I also had a Chrysler. Le Baron... The most sucky piece of junk I ever had. Sold it after 2 years.
You don't need to come here and bend the truth. The truth is that in any European reliability survey Dodge/Chrysler is hanging in the end of the quality line along with Renault and Fiat.
wow tony, a le baron huh? that car went out of production in 1995...and you just sold it two years ago? so that means it was 12 years old and probably had a crap load of miles. did you buy in new? i bet not...probably bought it used. i mean, there's no way you would have bought it new then kept such a piece of crap for 12 years right??? how long did you own it anyway? care to share all the problems you had with the car???
but we're all lying right?
i have owned two neons, both 1995 models and neither one ever left me on the side of the road. the first i bought in 1996 and the second i bought used while serving in korea three years ago. i drove it on the streets of korea for almost three years and sold it to another service member before returning to the states. in both cases, i put a lot of miles on the cars, just did regular maintenance and they were good to go. my mom owned a ram for several years. again, no problems.
as i said, i know plenty of people that drive chrysler products and are happy with them. for the most part, they all got pretty good deals thanks to all the negative press. and none of them are constantly taking the cars back to the dealership because they're breaking down due to their 'horrible unreliability'.
none of us are lying. we take care of our cars and they run well because of it. try not accusing people of lying just because they won't jump on your 'we hate chrysler' bandwagon. don't worry, there are plenty of other people that post here that claim chrysler's a complete crap that you can bond with.
as i said before, they might not be the top of their segment, but calling any of today's cars unreliable is nonsense. either that, or the definition of the word has changed from meaning a car that you couldn't rely on to get you from point a to b to something like a car that has an annoying squeak...occasionally...on certain roads...and has lots of hard plastic inside (my girlfriend's $30K honda pilot is a sea of hard plastic...only the armrests are padded).
I will not buy a car from Chrysler since the government has given all of our tax dollars to save it then blackmailed the banks to accept a deal and gave the Union 55 percent control of the company. If they made a good product for a reasonable price they wouldn't fail. Buy cars from the companies the goverment is not manipulating.
Betsy,
Get a Clue... Japan runs Toyota...Toyota has to do anything Japan tells them. How is is differnt than GM. The difference is when you buy a Toyota the money goes to Japan. That is why the country of Japan invested millions of dollars for the ugly Prius.
Sorry, but I've got to agree with many of the comments before mine that I'd never own a Chrysler product. My father owned his own service station from 1957 until 1990, when he sold out and retired. As a teenager and in to my twenties, I spent many hours servicing automobiles. My father only owned one Chrysler product in all of those years, and it was a Winnebago motorhome with a Chrysler drive train and chassis. It needed constant attention. Between dealing with that motorhome and customer's automobiles, I had seen first hand that Chrysler's engineering and quality were at the bottom of the heap. To this day, my father and mother only drive GM products, as their quality is seemingly the best of the domestic automakers. As for me, I started out owing two different GM products, but have been a Nissan customer and owner since 1982, having purchased 3 different vehicles. Each Nissan had accumulated well over 100,000 miles before I got rid of them. I do all of my own service work, and have yet to have a major failure in any of the Nissan products I have owned. Currently, I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck with 119,000 miles on it and I plan to put at least another 100,000 + miles on it before I have to contemplate any major repairs. Sorry Detroit, but you have done it to yourself, with Chrysler being the poster child of automotive failure! I'd love to be more "patriotic" and buy American, but I'm spending MY money, and quite honestly, the domestic manufacturers don't deserve my money. They've chosen to learn life's lessons the hard way. You couldn't run your household this poorly and expect to keep a roof over your head, so why should Chrysler think that irresponsible decisions should fare them any better?
remember this that every foregin car made in usa
sends the profit on it right back to mother country.
I think it is in the range of $8000.
no wonder the balance of trade is so negative.how
much longer can the usa surive this .
i made a biggest mistake by buying this new 2009 chrysler 300 touring, i wish i would have read these comments before. everytime i drive my car on a low speed 05 miles it shakes like it will shut off. when i took it to delaership they said they cant fix it beacuse it is characterstic of these cars, but was never told whenn i was buying this car. I have lexus LS-460-L-2009, BmW-325 and 2 other cars ut never expereince this before and i fail to understand why chrysler wont stand up to there product and fix this problems.
I hate Chrysler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER BUY CHRYSLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should NOT buy Chrysler for bunch of other reasons. The reason number one - you don't want to hurt yourself physically, mentally, financially.
And then, there is your country, your children. Faster Chrysler will collapse, faster Gov. donations to it will stop. Chrysler product is $%^t. With product like thais they will die anyway. Death is inevitable, pain is optional. Remeber this!
