We have eight people in our family and would like an SUV that has good legroom for the back passengers so their knees aren’t pulled up into their chests.
If an SUV is a must, a full-size SUV like the Ford Expedition will give you plenty of legroom in the third row. With 37.7 inches of legroom, it’s a leader in the segment, and when configured with bench seats the Expedition can seat up to nine people.
You can see a video demonstration of the third row in Senior Editor Joe Wiesenfelder’s video review, here.
Minivans are capable of more legroom, and the Honda Odyssey’s and Toyota Sienna’s legroom is 41.1 and 39.5 inches, respectively. The Sienna is also available with all-wheel drive.
A person’s size will determine how comfortable they’ll be in the third row, but these vehicles should be able to handle most average-sized adults.
To get an up-close look at these models visit a local auto show, if possible. Bring your family and have them try out the third row to see which vehicle will work for everyone.
