The entry level Altima 2.5 and 2.5S (coupe and sedan) do not offer an electronic stability system, not even as an option. To gain an electronic stability system, which helps keep the car pointed straight if it starts to slide, you have to step-up to V-6 models where the system is optional. Nissan calls their system Vehicle Dynamic Control.

Many base models don’t have stability control, but a growing trend among automakers is to include the equipment as standard across the entire lineup. Obviously the Altima isn’t one of these vehicles, nor is its fellow midsize sedan the Toyota Camry. The Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord and Mazda6 include stability control on all models, even the least expensive.
