The 2009 Toyota Corolla stands out as a quiet and smooth-riding compact. The smooth ride, however, comes at the expense of an exciting driving experience. When we took the Corolla out on a highway gas mileage challenge with the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Pontiac G5, it was easily the quietest and smoothest-riding compact car of that bunch. It also took top honors with the best mileage numbers.

After the mileage challenge,’s editor in chief wrote that the Corolla “was quiet and comfortable, and as someone who commuted 90 miles a day for 11 years, the Corolla was definitely a car I’d consider up to the task.”
