Ford’s MyColor system is a configurable dashboard display that allows drivers to choose from more than 125 different backlight colors.

According to a Ford representative, the redesigned 2010 Mustang’s MyColor dashboard mixes the output of seven LED colors — green, blue, ice blue, purple, white, orange and red — to produce the different backlighting.

You can see the system in action in the following video at minute marker 1:38 where Cars.com editor Mike Hanley cycles through some of its colors.

It's very easy to use and a very cool feature. I personally like the blue backlight which reminds me of the face plates of 1970's vintage Marantz audio gear.

The explanation doesn't seem right... wouldn't they just use an RGB LED and control the intensity mix to form the various colors?
