I’m ready to trade in my 2005 four-cylinder Highlander, which I love.
When the redesigned Highlander was introduced for the 2008 model year there wasn’t a four-cylinder option. But by mid- to late January 2009, Toyota’s midsize Highlander crossover SUV will once again have an available four-cylinder engine. The new four-cylinder will be mated only to two-wheel-drive Highlanders, which is unlike older Highlanders that were available with all-wheel drive.
Fuel mileage estimates are 20/27 mpg city/highway for the 2009 four-cylinder Highlander. The previous generation was rated at 19/25 mpg for 2WD models; these ratings reflect the EPA’s conversion factor for the new 2008 testing method.
