I can't figure out how the iPod is supposed to work with the 2009 Honda Civic. It shows the artist and song being played, but I can't seem to figure out how to change from one album to the next. Also, it doesn’t pop up the Honda logo on the iPod’s screen. The system does allow me to skip to the next song, but when I get to the end of an album, it starts all over again. That also goes for when I have the iPod set to play all songs from the same artist. No one at the local Honda dealer knows anything. After reading the owner’s manual, it seems that all of the songs have to be purchased.
Well, Jim, you asked this question at the perfect time because we recently had a 2009 Honda Civic with the new iPod integration system in our press fleet. After learning the new system, it looks like the only way to move from one album to the next is to use the play-all-albums or shuffle-all-albums features. This is roughly the norm for iPod integration systems since most retain the same folders and functions as your iPod.
The iPod integration on our Civic had the optional navigation system, so if you don’t have navigation then your steps to get to the play-all-albums screen is different. For nav-equipped cars, all you have to do is use the touch-screen and select “iPod Menu.” Next you’ll find an “Album” category, and then you select “All” to begin playing all albums. It’s a done deal. You can also hold the second preset, which is labeled “Random,” until it begins to play the albums randomly.
When we plugged an iPod into the Honda, it did take a few minutes for the Honda logo to appear on the iPod’s screen; the iPod connected and played just fine even without the Honda logo showing up on the iPod screen.
If your iPod integration isn’t teamed with the navigation system, then here’s what you have to do: With the iPod plugged-in, find the Tune/Sound knob on the right side of the stereo and press it in to switch to the iPod main menu. Using the knob, you can scroll from the menu to albums, and then choose “All” to play all albums. To play these albums randomly, you have to press the random button (pictured in the Civic's owner's manual below) repeatedly until “F-RDM” shows up in the display, and then you’re shuffling each album.

I recently leased a 2009 Honda Civic EX and i keep getting this "unsupported version" error when I plug my ipod in.
What should I do?

Same as the above commenters: 1.2.1 iPod software reading "unsupported" when connected.
I read somewhere that it only supports the newer iPods (Gen 5 and up, nano, etc.). I have a 09 Sedan and an iPod video and it works good.
