What month does the new model year start?

Is it the same for all makes?

D. Harrison, Grants Pass, Ore.

There really is no set date when new-model-year cars start to roll out. For example, the 2009 Nissan Murano has been available since January, and the 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring won’t be available until later this year. The bulk of new-car releases, however, will happen around August or September.

You can keep track of which 2009 vehicles are available by checking out our New Car Tracker and 2009 Model Year Preview.

does it make sense that a 2005 dodge caravan could have been purchased by the first owner in May 2004? do new model years start that early?
