Pillars are the structural uprights that support a car’s roof. Pillars are designated by letters of the alphabet, starting at the front with A. The A-pillar is the one in front of you that joins the windshield and the front side windows. In sedans, the C-pillar is the one that joins the rear window to the rear side windows. Even if the vehicle seems to have no B-pillar between the front and rear doors, the rearmost pillar usually is referred to as C anyway. The pillars can continue; the rearmost pillar in a station wagon is usually the D-pillar.
