Roof racks are fairly universal with aftermarket companies supporting almost any make and model, including your 2006 Matrix. They’re a great addition if you need more cargo space but don’t want to upgrade to a larger car.
In the Cars.com Advice Outdoors Life section, you can find articles about what you need to know before purchasing a roof rack, including what kinds of racks are available and what parts make up a complete roof rack.
The major rack components are available through manufacturers such as Yakima and Thule. Besides the main rack, there are different attachments and accessories you’ll need to buy depending if you’re lugging a bike, cargo container, skis or a canoe on top of your Matrix. If you don’t feel comfortable installing a rack, aftermarket companies often list on their websites authorized dealers that can install racks.
