Is Honda planning any major changes to its hybrid drivetrain?

Compared to the new 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid?

Jerry, Hillsborough, N.J.

Honda’s 2009 Civic won’t have any significant changes to the hybrid drivetrain. The 2009 receives a few additional features and styling changes, but it’s just as fuel efficient as the 2008, rated at 40/45 mpg city/highway by the EPA.

Honda’s hybrid technology also will appear in the 2009 Insight, a recent revival of the Insight name as a dedicated five-passenger hybrid. The Insight will use Honda’s existing Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system, which is also in the Civic Hybrid. Honda says it has “achieved a significant cost reduction in Integrated Motor Assist components, which should make Insight the most affordable hybrid vehicle to date.”
