Or should I wait for the new Chevrolet Camaro SS? My budget is around $35,000.
Cars.com editor Kelsey Mays drove
the 370-horsepower Challenger R/T and 300-horsepower Mustang GT back to
back. He gives his impressions on
the retro-styled modern pony cars below:
“We drove both cars back to back, and if your money isn't threatening to burn a hole through your pocket, we'd suggest waiting for the Camaro SS and heavily updated 2010 Mustang before making your decision [both are scheduled for an early 2009 release]. The Challenger's strengths are ride quality and roominess, not outright acceleration or hang-the-tail handling. Though down in horsepower, the current Mustang is eminently smaller and lighter, and you feel it as soon as you get behind the wheel. Its rear wheels are easier to swing wide — albeit harder to recover. The GT's 4.6-liter V-8 feels snappier off the line and easier to push hard than the Challenger's 5.7-liter. The differences are even more apparent when you compare a V-6 Mustang with the Challenger SE; the Challenger is more comfortable, but the Mustang is quicker and altogether more entertaining to drive.
“If you must buy today, I'd take the Challenger; the R/T is certainly quick enough, and it packs better ride comfort and more safety features than the Mustang. We haven't sampled the Camaro SS, but its 6.2-liter V-8 has proven a potent, torque-rich powertrain in the Corvettes we've tested. We'd also have to give the styling nod to GM; both inside and out, the Camaro looks more convincing than the Challenger or Mustang.”

I would go with the Mustang Gt it is just better. Yes you do lose a little of the comfort but there is nothing else you can find for the amount of money, the fun to drive factor, the look, unbelievable amount of aftermarket items. Safety just read the 2008 Mustang it was the first sports car to get a 5 star crash test rating all around. Just my two cents.
I am currently looking at buying a muscle car when i return from the my deployment to the middle east. I went to Dodge and chevy and asked about prices and chevy said that they are going to be charging 5K over MSRP because they said "the camaro is a limited edition car". to me it sounds like they are trying to dig them selves out but in actuality they are doing bad to themselves by doing that. I personally love the new camaro and the challenger but if i had to choose it would be the camaro.
The Dodge Challenger has a very cheap interior. The car handles poor. It is not reliable. I know two people that own one and the cars have have lots of problems. The rear end went out in one and the GPS has gone out in the other. It took Dodge 6 months to replace the GPS and 3 months to get a new rear end in the other. The company is broke it seems and most likely want even be in business in a year.

The camaro 6.2 is not the correct motor to be comparing to the 5.7 or the 4.6 you should know that. I'm sure it will be like a 5.3 you would want to compare. The 6.2 should be compared to the 5.4 gt 500 and the 6.1 Challenger
