The 2008 Town & Country doesn’t use a continuously variable transmission. All transmission choices are the regular “stepped” transmission available with either four or six gears, depending on engine choices.

A four-speed automatic is mated to 3.3-liter V-6 in base LX models, while higher Touring and Limited trims get a six-speed automatic with 3.8-liter and 4.0-liter V-6 engines, respectively.

In Chrysler’s lineup (Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep) the only models that use a CVT are the compact Dodge Caliber and the Jeep Compass and Patriot. CVT transmissions are known for their ability to provide smooth acceleration and create an infinite number of gears because there are no fixed gears like first, second and third to shift between. For more information on CVTs, see here.
