An electronic stability system — which is a safety system that prevents skidding or sliding during slippery road conditions — is available on most Hondas and Volkswagens for 2008. We’ve included a list below of the models that have the safety feature as standard, available or not available.

Automakers are working to have electronic stability control across their lineups to meet with federal safety regulations that require it as standard in 2012. For 2009, Volkswagen takes an early step and all 2009 VWs have a standard electronic stability system.

2008 Hondas

2008 Volkswagens

You can search for vehicles that come with an electronic stability system in the Cars.com research section as well as IIHS.org and Safercar.gov.

Most Hyundai vehicles have electronic stability control. All but the Elantra and the Accent have ESC as standard equipment. But ESC is available on the Elantra.

Ooops. Add one more Hyundai without ESC standard: The Tiburon. Like the Elantra, it's standard on the SE trim and not available on other trimlines.
