Compact trucks with a regular cab, four-cylinder engine and four-wheel drive are few and far between nowadays — as are compact trucks in general — but do include the Chevrolet Colorado, its GMC counterpart Canyon as well as the Toyota Tacoma.

All three of these trucks can be optioned with said equipment for around $20,000; work truck versions would cost slightly less.

The Tacoma is only available with a manual transmission in this configuration, while the Colorado and Canyon have an automatic transmission available on more expensive trim levels.

We’ve ranked the Tacoma as a Cars.com Best Bet, as well as rated it the Best Deal for Hard Workers in our 2008 Lifestyle Awards.

You can build one of these trucks to your liking and view standard equipment plus options here.

The Tacoma is a good truck. My uncle has one and loves it.
