Yes, there will be a 2009 Colorado pickup truck, and it’s not just an unchanged carryover from 2008 with “New wheel covers for 2009!” like some models are guilty of doing at the model year change.

In fact, the 2009 Colorado gets a new engine that’s been heavily anticipated by truck lovers since the Colorado’s introduction: a 5.3-liter V-8 engine making 300 horsepower and 320 pounds-feet of torque.

The 2.9-liter four-cylinder and 3.7-liter five-cylinder engines are carried over from last year, and according to General Motors, changes to a fuel control module have increased fuel economy. The new mileage figures are below.

Other updates for 2009 include a standard electronic stability system on all models as well as a new braking system for improved stopping power and brake feel.

2.9-liter four-cylinder fuel economy
City/Highway mpg — drive type — transmission
18 / 25 — 2WD — manual
18 / 24 — 2WD — automatic
17 / 25 — 4WD — manual
17 / 23 — 4WD — automatic

3.7-liter five-cylinder fuel economy
City/Highway mpg — drive type — transmission
17 / 23 — 2WD — automatic
16 / 22 — 4WD — automatic

5.3-liter eight-cylinder fuel economy

Variable intake valve timing for the I4 & I5 engine
Variable camshaft timing for the V8

How about a small 150-200hp Diesel with a 6 speed trans. how we are talking gas milage and performance!
