Should I buy a new or used Hyundai Sonata?

I have been looking at the 2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited. It has every option possible. I never thought of buying a new car; my father told me it was stupid. I really love this car. I feel safe with my children riding in it. I have spent hours, probably 50, looking on the internet for used cars. I cannot find what I want except for this car. I have talked the seller down to $21,600. Am I being stupid buying a new car?

It really is a personal choice whether you buy new or used, and by no means is it “stupid” to decide to buy a new car. Below are a few pros and cons from the Cars.com article “Advantages of New and Used Cars.” However, if you’ve decided a Hyundai Sonata is the right car for you, then there are a few extra things you should take into consideration when choosing between new and used, including the warranty. Hyundai’s 10-year/100,000-mile warranty is only available to owners of new cars and is not transferable; owners of used Hyundais receive a shorter warranty term of five years/60,000 miles.

The second thing is that we’re currently showing a $1,500 cash-back incentive offered until June 2 on the recently redesigned 2009 Sonata. You can find other incentives in your area by entering your zip code here. Changes for 2009 are predominantly on the inside, where a new interior goes head-to-head with the likes of the Honda Accord in terms of material quality and design. hello chrysler has a life time warranty unlimited years and unlimited miles

The reason why buying a new car is "stupid" has to do with the sharp depreciation of a new car's value.

I recently purchaed a used 06 Sonata for $10k. These cars do not hold their value, but that's great news for those of us that require a newer car but can't afford used Accord or Camry prices. So far the Sonata is an excellent car, and had tons of standard options.

If you buy the car to keep it for a while, 5-6 or more years, than the new, 2009 Sonata is definitely a really great buy, a real winner!

However, do your homework before you finish the deal... Get on line, have some dealers email you their offers, do some research, so that by the time you show up at the dealership you're an educated buyer. And please don't let the sales person sell you any of the add-ons... No rust proofing or fabric treatment or anything....

It is true that new car buyers get lemon law protections in all 50 states. However, in most states a used vehicle bought prior to the end of the new car lemon law term (usually 18,000) will get the same protections as the new car under the lemon law. Plus many states have used car lemon law statutes

On the plus side Hyundai finally installed a 5 speed automatic with the 2.4 I4 engine.
On the cons side, Hyundai changed the rear turn signals to red.
