To clear up some confusion: Saturn will eventually have two Vue Green Line hybrids on sale at the same time. Right now there’s only one — a “mild” hybrid — but a more sophisticated Vue Green Line with a 2 Mode hybrid system will be on sale in late 2008 as a 2009 model.

The current 2008 hybrid Vue is a mild hybrid that cannot drive in electric-only mode. Driving in electric mode is big advantage with a 2 Mode system — it saves fuel at low speeds when the gasoline engine is not running.

Also changed is what’s under the hood, as the current Vue uses a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and the upcoming two-mode Vue will have a 3.6-liter V-6.

Fuel economy specs on the current Vue are 25/32 miles per gallon city/highway. The 2009 Vue’s fuel economy ratings aren’t available yet but Saturn says that mileage will increase by 50 percent compared to non-hybrid V-6 Vues, which are rated at 16/24 mpg.
