Will my Civic Hybird's battery go dead at 60K miles?

My husband says we should buy a new car because at 60K miles, my Civic Hybrid's battery will go bad. Is this true?

Marcia K., San Diego

Even if the hybrid’s battery pack does go bad at 60,000 miles, which is unlikely, the battery will be covered by Honda’s 10-year/150,000-mile hybrid warranty in California. This longer warranty is limited to select states, including California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New York and Vermont. Other states have the standard eight-year/80,000-mile battery warranty.

Being concerned over the battery’s life expectancy isn’t new to the hybrid segment, as it can be an expensive component. We can tell you that battery failure is not typical on any hybrid, and Honda’s Civic Hybrid has excellent reliability ratings.
