Elizabeth J., Columbia S.C.

J.D. Power’s most recent 2007 Dependability Report ranked the Chrysler PT Cruiser has having average overall dependability, scoring three out of five. The 2007 report consisted of J.D. Power surveying original owners of 2004 model year cars and resulting problems over three years.

Residual value is a tad more disappointing, though, and after two years Automotive Lease Guide predicts the PT will hold 47 percent of its value from when it was new. Ouch. In comparison, the Chevrolet HHR is slightly better at 49 percent. The Scion xB holds 69 percent of its value, which is no surprise from a Scion/Toyota product.

On the plus side, there’s currently a massive $3,000 cash back incentive in the Columbia area available on 2008 models. You can find local and national rebates at the Cars.com Incentives search, found here.

Below is a rundown of J.D. Power’s dependability scores for the PT Cruiser:

Overall Dependability: 3/5
Powertrain Dependability: 2/5
Body and Interior Dependability: 5/5
Features & Accessories Dependability: 5/5
