How much below sticker should I pay for a 2007 Mercury Montego?

How much below the $28,875 sticker price should you expect to pay for a brand-new 2007 Mercury Montego still on dealers’ lots in 2008?

Tom J., Clarksdale, Miss.

At Cars.com, we have a Smart Target Price that estimates a starting point for negotiations on new cars. Even though the 2008 model (now called Sable) is on dealership lots, there are still new 2007 Montegos sitting around. Looking at all available 2007 Mercury Montego trim levels, the Smart Target Price for the Montego is around $1,127 off the original MSRP.

For example, the 2007 Montego Premier with front-wheel drive was the middle trim level in 2007. With a sticker of $27,385 brand new, our Smart Target Price estimates a starting point for negotiations would be $26,218.

For all the Montego trim levels, see this Side-by-Side Comparison.
