The 2008 Nissan Rogue – introduced in 2007 — is an all-new model in Nissan’s lineup and one more small SUV to consider in an already popular segment. The Rogue competes with small SUVs like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Jeep Patriot and Mitsubishi Outlander.
We included the Rogue in a Cars.com Faceoff of small SUVs, where it went up against the previous winner, Toyota’s RAV4, and the also-new-for-2008 Saturn Vue. Cars.com editors Mike Hanley, David Thomas and Joe Wiesenfelder tackled the Faceoff.
As for the Rogue’s overall value, they write, “You can drive happily in a Rogue SL AWD without adding any options for $22,615, which beats the other two handily. Even loaded with leather and a premium package that includes Bluetooth and other goodies, the Rogue comes out ahead.”
In the end, the Vue took first place, but according to the editors, “If you don't mind its modest power, the Rogue's combination of ride comfort, fuel economy, passenger room and features for the money give it the things that are important to small-SUV shoppers.”

My wife and I picked up our '08 Rogue yesterday. Our first inpression is that we love this vehicle. We especially love the exterior/interior styling, modest power, and ride and handling. We purchased the SL in silver ice (which I think is the best color) with everything except AWD and the leather package at a great discounted price. If you're married with no kids like us or single and enjoy an occasional road trip like us, or even the occasional Wal-Mart/Kroger/Home Depot run, this is the perfect vehicle. Especially with the 6CD BOSE system with auxillary input and comfortable seats.
Isn't this called the Quas...? uh. Kumkwat or something like that in Europe? Well anyway, the Kumkwat seems like a really nice SUV. It is the most luxurious out of all of them and Nissan could always put in the 3.5L V6 in later.
QASHQAI
I have checked out many SUV's in this class and I am strongly considering this Nissan Rogue. The exterior styling, the interior styling, and the standard features make this a great value for the dollar. I liked it much better than the Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, and Jeep Patriot. The two finalists in my decision making process took me to the Nissan Rogue and the Honda CRV. So far the Nissan Rogue is the top choice for me.
What is the need for a V6 anyway? Do people really need a V6 to run around town? are they hauling the a trailer to go grocery shopping, are pulling boats? are we trying to race the other vehicles from one stop light to another? I don't get the reason for V6 other than those purposes. This SUV does 8.9 sec according to Motortrend. Car and Driver did a mini-SUV challenge and the Rogue came out third behind Toyota's RAV4 and Honda's CRV, but it lagged the fastest acceleration and shortest stopping distance. IT was also the most carlike to drive. The whole purpose of this vehicle is for day-to-day commute and excellent fuel economy. From the articles I have read the 4 cylinder CVT works just fine and is the most carlike out of all the SUV's in it's class.
IT LOOKS LIKE A MINI MURANO WITH AVERAGE PERFORMANCE. MY ONLY CONCERN WAS THE SMALL HATCH WINDOW WHICH CREATED A HUGE BLINDSPOT
My 2008 Rogue has 2500 miles on it and there really has been no issues to date.
Dislikes:
- Vibration on low RPM's cruising
- Small amount of chatter in drivers door
- Road Noise in wet weather from rear wheel wells
- Visibility issues
- Front Drivers seat - front of seat doesn't adjust up or down just the rear.
Likes:
- 25 MPG overall with 60/40 split highway/city
- CVT drives great & smooth
- Great Stereo & sound
- Seats are the most comfortable albeit could use more lateral support
- Great Looks
- Got it just after the winter here in the northeast so I am eager to see it action next year.
2008 SL AWD with Premium Package plus Leather
Hated that I had to get the Leather Package to get the auto dimming rear view mirror & home link features.
