Is the 2009 Ford F-150 a total redesign?

Is the new 2009 Ford F-150 a total redesign or just a mild update of the current platform?

Johnny C., Irvine, Calif.

The 2009 is more than a mild update. The exterior and interior have been given a restyle, and underneath the new sheet metal is a stiffer and lighter frame, which Ford says will help increase towing capacity. Super Crew models (four full-size doors) have been stretched 6 inches for added rear-passenger legroom. Under the hood are engines that have been tweaked for an average of one additional mpg across the lineup, according to Ford. The F-150 is scheduled to go on sale this fall. There’s no word yet regarding power specs or towing capacity on the 2009 F-150. Keep checking back on the KickingTires blog for F-150 news.
